STUDENT DESIGN FELLOWSHIP
FAQ

Am I eligible?

You are eligible for this internship if you are a 2nd or 3rd year undergraduate student studying industrial design, interior design, architecture, or entrepreneurial-focused programs or a 4th year undergraduate student studying architecture at an accredited university in the U.S. with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students must be eligible to work in the U.S., have a valid passport, and be 18 years of age or older. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept: undergraduate seniors (besides those in Architecture majors), graduate students, and international students. If you have previously applied and still fit the eligibility criteria, you can apply again!

Which companies will I get to visit?

We’re still finalizing the 2019 program from our list of members. Past years have included: Emeco, Design Within Reach, Herman Miller, Carnegie Fabrics, Vitra, Bernhardt Design, and many more! Visits will include companies in various cities and you’ll travel by plane, train, and subway to see original design in action – whether in New York City or beyond.

What can I expect to learn?

Every day of the Be Original Americas Fellowship looks different! Each day you’ll visit a new company and learn everything from hands-on design and manufacturing work (like welding your own Emeco Navy Chair) to the ins and outs of sales & marketing. With each new visit, there will be an ad-hoc itinerary specific to that company. Curious to see more? Check out our blog for past fellows’ experiences.

What costs can I expect to incur?

The Fellowship will arrange and pay for Fellows travel and lodging accomodations throughout the duration of the program. Student fellows will be responsible for covering meals and incidental expenses. The Fellows will also receive a $2500 grant after successfully completing the program.

When will winners be announced?

Our 2019 Student Fellows will be announced in late April 2019.
