The Arco Floor Lamp designed in 1962 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni is one of Flos’ most iconic designs. The brothers drew inspiration from street lights and from their imaginative minds came this seven-foot-tall floor lamp set in a white Carrara marble base. Arco is one of the most commonly imitated - but never duplicated - designs to date.

Here are a few ways you can distinguish an authentic Arco Floor Lamp:

  1. An original Arco Floor Lamp has a small hole towards the front of its marble base. This hole was intentionally incorporated into the design as a way of moving the lamp. Just large enough to put a broom handle through and with one person on either side, the 140 lbs. lamp can be lifted. Counterfeit Arcos often have no hole or the placement will be incorrect and off-balance.

  2. Father of Achille and Pier Giacomo, Giannino Castiglioni, was a sculptor. Their father’s work inspired the brothers to incorporate a white Carrara marble base into their iconic design. This sizable marble base was designed to have beveled edges. Due to its large size, the rounded corners give this substantial piece of marble a softer look.

  3. An original Arco’s telescopic metal stem can be easily extended to be seven feet long. An authentic Arco will pull easily to extend - each piece fitting snugly into the next. A knockoff Arco may include additional extenders to be individually attached or unscrewed for extension.
